About Us
Reading is the single most important skill a child develops, and millions are being left behind. In the UK, 1 in 4 children leave primary school without the reading fluency they need, and the gap only widens from there.
For most children, the barrier isn't ability. It's confidence, and the simple lack of time to practise reading aloud with someone who listens. Auris Tech was founded to close that gap with technology built for the job.
Our founder, Kim Antoniou, set out to create something that did not exist: a speech recognition engine designed not for voice commands or dictation, but for the unique way people read written text aloud. Working alongside speech scientists from the University of Edinburgh, Auris Tech developed and patented an automatic speech recognition (ASR) engine built specifically for read speech. It listens as a child reads, follows them word by word, and measures fluency, accuracy and pronunciation across whole passages in real time. It was not adapted from general voice technology. It was built, from the ground up, for reading.
That technology powers Fonetti, our read-aloud platform that turns reading practice into an encouraging, measurable experience at home and in school. Through the National Read-Aloud Challenge, our annual campaign, we put it into the hands of thousands more children every year.
Our ASR has now listened to hundreds of thousands of real reading sessions, and the pattern is clear: children read more, improve faster, and rediscover the confidence to find their voice. Our mission is to make reading joyful, inclusive and transformative for every child, whatever their background, ability or language, and to prove that voice technology built with care and grounded in research can close the reading gap at scale.
Our Technology
Auris Tech's ASR is different by design:
Built specifically for reading, not adapted from general voice technology
Multi-patented automatic speech recognition for read speech
Developed with the University of Edinburgh, one of the world's leading centres for speech technology research
Classroom scale, able to listen to an entire class reading at once, individually and accurately, giving teachers real-time insight and freeing up valuable one-to-one time
