Over 40 schools and 1000s of excited pupils joined Fonetti's virtual World Book Day Event, hosted by beloved children's authors Clare Balding and Christina Gabbitas.
Christina kicked off the event with her story Felicity Fly and the Dragon Fruit and Friends, followed by questions from students about what inspires the authors to write. Then, Clare read Greeny and the Caring Tree, written by our impressive Young Authors Competition winner Guru Kashyap, who was only 6 at the time.
Primary school pupils were central to the success of the event. Keeping with World Book Day's goal of encouraging reading for pleasure amongst children, pupils across the UK collectively read What do you want to become and submitted to many questions for Clare and Christina that we couldn't answer them all! They also shared photos of themselves in unique and creative World Book Day outfits on social media using the hashtag #FonettiWBD.
Fonetti has also launched a book review project and is asking for reviews and feedback on the stories available on the app. We are accepting reviews in any format that children are comfortable expressing themselves in - whether that's drawings, voice recordings, or videos! Please send your reviews to hello@fonetti.com and let us know if we can share it on social media.
All titles mentioned in the article are available on the Fonetti app. Fonetti is a tablet-based, interactive reading practice app. It uses Auris's multi-patented automatic speech recognition (ASR) engine to engage children with reading, using the power of the child's own voice to accelerate and embed their learning.
